BIJU AUGUSTINE MEMORIAL BADMINTON TOURNAMENT

Friends Sporting Club has been organising the All UK Badminton doubles tournament since 2010. In 2015 due to sad demise of our club member Biju Augustine, we gave it a miss but from following years we decided to organise the badminton tournament in his memory. Badminton players from all over UK participate in this tournament for the Biju Augustine Memorial rolling trophy.
REGULAR BADMINTON SESSIONS
Good news for the club members £1 for Badminton sessions. We have now received some funding from FOREVER MANCHESTER to resume our badminton sessions. We will be starting this as soon as we have a confirmation of venue. Non club members regular fees £3.00 for men and ladies and £2.00 for children. The starting date will be announced on the badminton group.
CRICKET COACHING AND NETS
Regular junior winter cricket coaching and senior nets practice went on well at Parswood High School, Didsbury on every Saturday 5pm to 7pm and this concluded on 1st February 2020. Outdoor nets and junior coaching started at Alexandra Park from 07th of March 2020 but was cut short due to Covid-19 restrictions and concerns. It has since resumed again in July end and now takes place every Thursday.
AGM AND ELECTION

Annual General Body of the Friends Sporting Club and election for the new officebearers slated for March 2020 was cancelled due to the Corronavirus epidemic concerns. It was later decided later in an Executive meeting held via Zoom to retain the same office bearers for the 20-21 until the next AGM in 2021.
FRIENDS JOURNEY WITH BUDDING STARS SEASON 5

After the hugely successful summer cricket coaching camp last year we are again gearing up to host our next Summer Cricket Coaching Camp, “FRIENDS JOURNEY WITH BUDDING STARS” this year as well, for boys and girls between the ages 7 and 15 years at the Alexandra Park Cricket Ground. This year it will spread over 10 sessions as follows:-
Session 1 & 2 – Aug 14th from 5pm to 7pm
Session 3 & 4 – Aug 21st from 5pm to 7pm
Session 5 & 6 – Aug 28th from 5pm to 7pm
Session 7 & 8 – Sept 4th from 5pm to 7pm
Session 9 & 10 – Sept 11th from 5pm to 7pm
Reserve Day – Sept 18th from 5pm to 7pm
ALL STARS CRICKET

All Stars Cricket is the England and Wales Cricket Board’s entry level participation programme, aimed at providing children aged five to eight years with a great first experience in cricket. This will be the fourth consecutive year Friends Sporting Club is organising All Stars Cricket training programme at Alexandra Park.
DYNAMOS CRICKET

Dynamos Cricket is a new programme from the England and Wales Cricket Board and provides a fantastic next step for all those graduating from All Stars Cricket and the perfect introduction for all 8-11-year-olds new to the sport. It’s a programme of skill development sessions that are always followed by a fast paced and exciting game of countdown cricket. Every child will receive a New Balance t-shirt personalised with their name and number, the chance to win Money Can’t Buy experiences linked to The Hundred and access to a Dynamos participant app with exclusive videos, weekly challenges and games.

Following the huge success of the Ladies Soft Ball Tournament last year, FSC is planning a softball tournament this year on a much bigger scale at Alexandra Park for all of North West. Aiming to achieve 100 participants for this year.

ONAM FEST

Onam is a traditional Harvest Festival of Kerala, one of the southern states in India. This presents the Club with an opportunity to host a cultural event for members and their families and also for the members of the local community. This will also present the children an opportunity to showcase their talent in music and dance and enable the local community to have a taste of a cultural festival from another country.

The Club will host its annual Awards Night on to felicitate all the players who play in the 2020 season and to recognise the top performers of the season. We also recognise the volunteers who contribute to Cricket in General for the community and Club’s in and around Manchester.
